Anthropic Launches Initiative to Study AI's Economic Impact

San Francisco, CA – AI research company Anthropic has announced the launch of its Economic Futures Program, a new initiative aimed at deeply examining and addressing the economic impacts of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the labor market and the global economy.

The program is structured around three core pillars: providing research grants and partnerships to foster empirical studies, creating forums for evidence-based discussions among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, and expanding the Anthropic Economic Index. The index will track AI's economic usage and impact using public data, with plans for regular public data and research releases.

To kickstart research efforts, Anthropic is offering rapid grants of up to $50,000 for empirical research into AI's economic effects. Additionally, the company is soliciting evidence-based policy proposals for symposia scheduled for Fall 2025 in Washington, D.C., and Europe. These forums are intended to facilitate discussion on potential solutions for managing AI's impact on work and the broader economy.

Anthropic stated that the initiative is driven by the urgent and complex questions surrounding AI's economic outcomes and the need to ground these conversations in real-world data. The program seeks to contribute to the development of new research and potential responses to the significant shifts AI is expected to bring to the workforce.
